A gallery wall is a great way to take up an empty space on a large wall, displaying a variety of memories or pieces of art that you love. It is a simple way to bring style and personality to any room. Putting a gallery wall together doesn't have to be intimidating. We've put some tips together to make the process super easy!

1. Get your tape measure out!

Start by measuring the wall you’d like the gallery on. Mark that space out on the floor with painter’s tape. This will give you a space to plan your layout in. Always start in the middle, usually with the largest piece, and work out from there to keep it balanced.

2. Choosing a layout

Before you begin, we think it’s easiest to decide on your layout first. Lay your frames out on the floor and play around with the layout until you’re happy. Don’t be afraid to mix it up, it doesn’t have to have perfectly symmetrical to look beautiful. See our example images below. Each layout is unique to each home.

If you haven’t purchased your frames yet, try laying out pieces of paper on the floor that are sized to the frames you're planning to have in your gallery wall.

3. Mix and match

When creating a gallery wall we think it looks best to use a variety of prints and photographs in different sizes as it creates visual interest as well as tells a story.

Your gallery wall can be an interesting mix of genres and techniques. For instance, figures, landscapes, abstracts in the form of drawings, photography and paintings.

4. Framing

Don’t be afraid to mix and match frame colours to suit each print. This will help to tie in all of the different tones in your artwork and photographs. Choose some images with borders and some images without.

5. Hanging

Hanging a gallery wall doesn’t come without it’s complications, but it's totally worth the effort. To make it easier we swear by Command Picture hanging velcro strips. Make sure you follow the instructions - we don’t use them for frames bigger than A1 or on textured wallpapers!

    Really enjoyed the article.

Just wondering if you or you know someone whom might be able to assist my wife and I choose and position art work through out our home?

    Regards
